This NGO website development project was for the National Health Academy (NHA) in New Delhi, an independent body of health, medical and social science professionals. The site explains NHA's three programme areas, shares its research and publications, and gives visitors two clear actions: register for a programme or donate.

The challenge

The National Health Academy (NHA) is an independent body of health, medical, and social and behavioural science professionals based in Jasola, New Delhi. Its aim is to improve health and the performance of the health system in India.

NHA speaks to several groups at once:

  • Health researchers and policymakers who want its research and publications.
  • Doctors, nurses and the wider health workforce who attend its CMEs, workshops and seminars.
  • Schools and students, through its first aid school programme.
  • Young people looking at health careers, through its career programme.
  • Supporters and donors who fund its campaigns.

The brief was to give each group a clear path without making the site feel crowded:

  1. Explain the three programme areas — Medical & Health Care, School Programme (first aid) and Career Programme — in simple terms.
  2. Share credible work. Research, publications, awards and campaigns show NHA is serious and active.
  3. Two key actions. "Register Now" for people joining programmes and events, and "Donate Now" for supporters.
  4. Stay connected. A newsletter for updates on new campaigns and events.
  5. Keep it simple to run. As a non-profit, NHA needed a site that is cheap to host and easy to keep online.

What non-profits often get wrong#

Many NGO websites try to say everything on the home page: history, every project, every partner. Visitors leave without knowing what to do next. A good NGO website tells a short, clear story and then asks for one specific action.

NGO website development on a small budget#

Non-profits have to make every rupee count. That rules out expensive hosting, paid plugins and a site that needs a developer for every small change. The plan here was a lean, fast site that costs very little to keep online, while still looking professional enough to earn the trust of doctors, schools and donors.

What we built

We built a clean, lightweight site where every section leads either to learning about NHA's work or to one of two actions.

Structure#

  • Home — NHA's mission and goals, the three programme areas, current campaigns, awards and the two main buttons.
  • Resources — useful material for health professionals and the public.
  • Program — Medical & Health Care, School Programme (first aid) and Career Programme.
  • Research — NHA's research work.
  • Publication — published papers and reports.
  • Gallery — photos from CMEs, workshops, seminars and school sessions.
  • Contact — address in Jasola, New Delhi, and three email addresses for different enquiries.
  • Register — sign-up for programmes and events.

Two clear actions#

"Register Now" and "Donate Now" appear on the home page and across the site. Whoever the visitor is — a nurse looking for a CME or a supporter wanting to help — the next step is always obvious.

Campaigns front and centre#

A current campaigns section shows what NHA is working on right now. It gives donors a specific reason to give and gives returning visitors something new to see.

Credibility built in#

Mission and goals, awards, research and publications all have clear homes. For a health organisation, this is what convinces policymakers, partners and funders.

Newsletter and announcements#

A newsletter sign-up and a pop-up notice for important announcements, such as an upcoming workshop.

Simple, low-cost build#

The site uses static HTML pages with a shared assets folder. It is fast, secure and very cheap to host — a sensible choice for a non-profit that wants its budget to go to programmes, not servers.

Decisions that mattered#

  • Two actions only. Register and donate, repeated clearly across the site.
  • Programmes explained by audience. Health workers, schools and students each find their programme quickly.
  • Static build. Low hosting cost and very little maintenance.

Tips for NGO websites#

Lead with your mission in one sentence, show what you are doing right now, prove it with research and awards, and ask for one clear action. A good NGO website development project is less about features and more about clarity.

Questions about this project

What should an NGO website include?
A one-line mission, the programmes you run, current campaigns, proof such as research and awards, and clear buttons to register, volunteer or donate. NHA's site follows this structure.
How much does an NGO website cost to run?
A static site like NHA's is very cheap to host and needs little maintenance. If you need online donations, member logins or event management, a dynamic site costs more but can be added later.
Can an NGO accept registrations online?
Yes. NHA's site has a Register page for programmes and events. Registrations can also be connected to email alerts and spreadsheets so the team never misses one.
