Overview

The project in short

Bokaro Basket wanted to bring quick grocery delivery to Bokaro Steel City. We built a mobile-first grocery delivery app as a PWA, with 12 shopping categories, local food partners, offers and coupons, saved addresses and order tracking. Customers install it straight from the browser and order 24/7.

The brief

What Bokaro Basket needed

This grocery delivery app development project began with a gap in the market. Big quick-commerce apps cover metro cities, but most of them do not deliver in Bokaro. Bokaro Basket saw the gap: local families wanted groceries, snacks, dairy and even restaurant food delivered quickly, from a local business they could call.

The brief came with real constraints:

  1. Phone first. Almost every order would come from a mobile phone, often on a slower connection.
  2. No app store friction. Asking people to search for and download an unknown app from the Play Store loses many customers. The app had to be installable in seconds.
  3. More than groceries. Bokaro Basket also partners with local food sellers, from biryani to momos and idli. These needed to sit alongside groceries in one cart.
  4. Easy for the owner to run. The team needed to add products, change prices, run offers and put up new banners every day without calling a developer.
  5. Always open. Orders are accepted 24/7, so the system had to be reliable around the clock.

What local businesses in Bokaro need from a delivery app#

A local delivery business wins on trust and speed. Customers want to see real local phone numbers, clear delivery rules (like free delivery above a set amount), and a checkout that remembers their address. Getting those basics right matters more than fancy features.

The work

What we built

We built Bokaro Basket as a Progressive Web App (PWA). It works in any browser, and customers can add it to their home screen like a normal app, with no Play Store or App Store needed.

A shop built for phones#

  • Bottom navigation for Home, Categories, Cart and Account, like a native app.
  • 12 categories: Groceries, Snacks & Branded Foods, Stationery, Personal Care, Household Care, Dairy & Bakery, Ice Cream, Baby Care, Beverages, Health Care, Party & Gifts and Dry Fruits.
  • Banner sliders for food partners and daily offers, each linking to the right category.
  • A clear free delivery message so customers know the minimum order.

Install in seconds#

  • An "Install app" prompt on Android, and simple step-by-step "Add to Home Screen" instructions for iPhone.
  • Fast loading and offline browsing of the catalogue.

A smooth checkout#

  • Sign in, then save delivery addresses for faster checkout next time.
  • Offers and coupons page.
  • My Orders to see past and current orders.
  • Local phone numbers and email always visible for help.

An admin panel for daily running#

  • Add and edit products, prices and stock.
  • Create categories for new food partners (for example, a new biryani or fast food seller).
  • Upload banners and run offers.
  • Manage and update orders.

Decisions that mattered#

  • PWA instead of separate apps. One build covers Android, iPhone and desktop, keeping cost low and launch fast.
  • Food and groceries in one cart. Local food partners bring in repeat orders that groceries alone would not.
  • Owner-controlled banners and offers. The Bokaro Basket team can promote something new in minutes.

Questions

About this project

What is a PWA, and why use one for a grocery app?

A Progressive Web App runs in the browser but can be installed on the home screen like a normal app. For Bokaro Basket it meant one build for Android, iPhone and desktop, with no app store approval and faster installs for customers.

Can the shop owner update products and offers themselves?

Yes. Bokaro Basket's team manages products, prices, categories, banners, offers and orders from an admin panel.

Do you build delivery apps for businesses in Bokaro?

Yes. Larwell Technologies is based in Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand. We build delivery apps, ecommerce stores and websites for local businesses and for clients across India and the Gulf.
